Can a Sexy Star Wars Burlesque Show Actually Succeed?

Did you even realize that burlesque shows still actually existed in this world?  Gfest sure didn't.

But a little research tells us that there has in fact been a resurgence of interest in burlesque shows in the last decade or so.  The original burlesque shows, which began here in America in the 1860's shows played in cabarets and clubs, and featured bawdy comedy and striptease, but not nudity.

They were a part of American culture for another eighty years, but the format began to fade in popularity in the 1940's, at the very earliest stages of the sexual revolution in this country.  Burlesque shows were eventually replaced by strip clubs, much to the appreciation of men everywhere.

What you probably didn't know is that they have apparently made a bit of a comeback.  The shows began to return in New York City in the early 1990s and developed a bit of a cult following.  The shows then spread to Los Angeles and New Orleans.

We assume they quickly realized that nobody in their right mind would actually pay money to see this.  For most men, the only reason they go to a theatery thing is because their date has promised them the chance to see naked boobs later that evening.  Burlesque is theater with no boobs, which just isn't going to cut it in today's world.  We have the internet now.  Burlesque alone can't compete with that.

So what's a burlesque dancer to do?  Well, you could try to court the ever growing geek culture by adding some extra sexual energy into some of our favorite science fiction characters.  And that's just what the ladies below tried to do by adopting the Star Wars culture.

But did they succeed?  You be the judge:

Kashyyyk's Next Top Model?

I believe this is the newest model, the titTIE fighter.

THIS is the droid I was looking for!

They're clones right?  So all of them look like this?
This almost makes up for Jar Jar Binks.

Boba seems to have developed a Fettish.

Star Wars Picture is The World’s Largest Lego Mosiac

Tony Sims of Wired recently posted about Dorling Kindersley’s attempt to break the world record for the largest Lego Mosaic in London.

The bricks have been counted and the size of the mosaic has been measured, and it has been confirmed that DK and the LEGO Group have broken a Guinness World Record for the largest image built with interlocking plastic bricks, to celebrate the launch of the latest in DK’s LEGO Brickmaster Books series!

Nearly 2000 visitors, young and old came along to help build this fantastic creation, and with the help and guidance from the Brickish Association and DK team, the mosaic was finished in at lunchtime on Monday, October 25th.

Congrats to DK, Lego and all the volunteers that assisted in building this beautiful masterpiece.   Now if I could get some volunteers to help me put together my sons Lego Death Star.

Slave Leia Terminator Halloween Costume

Gizmodo is currently running a Sexy Robot Costume Contest, which is nothing short of brilliant.  While we don't know who the winner will eventually be, we sure know where gfest's votes are going.

We proudly present the Slave Princess Leia Terminator costume, which brilliantly mashes up two of science fiction's best franchises.  George Lucas wishes he could think of something this cool.

All entries to the contest are posted on their Facebook page, where you can vote on your favorite robots by "liking" them.  Although we dare you to find one sexier than Leia.

R2 D2 Bathing Suit is Very Geeky and Sexy

Now THIS is the droid I was looking for!!

Just in time for your trip to the sandy beaches of Tatoine, comes this ridiculously sexy one piece swimsuit that Black Milk Clothing is now selling.  They very appropriately call it Artoo sells for only $85.  It is made in Australia by designer James Lillis and consists of a Polyester/Lycra mix.

But that's not the best part.  In a very subtle move, observable only to a true fan, R2-D2's data "ports" have been placed in the absolutely perfect positions.

I dare you to find me a sexier bathing suit than that.

Plus, I think Jamie Lee Curtis wears one.

Bar Wars

Flo over at nonstopnerds (great site) posted this simple but hilarious Star Wars spoof entitled, "Bar Wars."  He even got the bar stool colors to match Luke and Darth Vader's Lightsabers.  My money is on Vader in a bar fight.  Awesome!

Star Wars Trilogy in South Park-Esq Papercraft in 2 minutes

Eric Power used paper to summary the Star Wars trilogy to the tune of a Jeremy Messermith's Tatooine. It's pretty damn sweet! Check Eric's other papercraft videos in his page, including Zelda and Mortal Kombat. [Eric Power]

This is one of the funnier (and creepy) entries to date.  You just knew all those wild wagon rides would come back to haunt him.  Created by Timothy Lim with text by Mark Pellegrini.

Holden Leung combined my favorite things - Batman and Robin with Calvin and Hobbes.  These pencils are awesome Holden!

The Lighter Side of Lord Vader

A man can't completely fill his day with conquering the universe and supervising construction of the Death Star (again).  Even Lord Vader likes to let loose and relax a bit after hours.

Star Wars Art - "Tatooine Tone" Clever, Funny and Beautiful

Otis Frampton created this beautiful and funny Star Wars picture entitled, "Tatooine Tone."  The inspiration for the ad is the old Coppertone baby ad.  Looks like Yoda is pondering taking a look under the old loin cloth. It's a wonderful concept with a good amount of pop culture injected into it.  Great Job Otis!

Very Cool Han Solo and the Bounty Hunters Art

Artist and illustrator Chris Bishop is very talented and creative.  Just check out his cool and innovative Star Wars art below.

Han Solo has a bunch of tattoos but the most important ones are a heart with an “L” on it for Leia, an “MF” for the old Millennium Falcon, and two little crossed out Death Stars.

Yet as much as we love the Han Solo, we love this Baddest Bounty Hunters in the Galaxy even more.
