Cheryl Cole puts on her big hair for a big new job...

By NATALIE TROMBETTA and CHRIS JOHNSON in Los Angeles

Hello America: Cheryl Cole shows off her huge bouffant, which she described as 'crazy wild hair' as she arrives for the first day of the U.S. X Factor auditions in Los Angeles today

Perhaps too many Dynasty reruns have left Cheryl Cole thinking this is how everyone wears their hair in America.

Whatever the reason her huge bouffant 'do certainly made an impact as she arrived for the first day of filming the U.S. X Factor.

But while she may have worked hard on her 'look', as an unknown in the States Cheryl is fast finding she will have to work hard to prove herself.

Legendary music producer LA Reid told MailOnline he hadn't even met Cheryl. And when asked what he thought of Simon Cowell's choice he replied: 'I don't know man. I've never listened to her music.'

Who is she again? Cheryl's fellow judge LA Reid admitted he had never heard her music

Camera ready: The American media were eager to get a glimpse of the new judge

Cheryl was the second judge to arrive, flaunting her slender figure in an eye-catching pair of purple Diane von Furstenberg trousers and an Oscar de la Renta top, teamed with a turquoise belt.

She laughingly described her over-the-top hairdo as 'crazy wild hair'.

When asked how she felt about the fact Reid had never heard of her, or her music, the 27-year-old singer wasn't annoyed.

'I quite like it, it means I feel really challenged,' she said. 'I have so much respect for LA Reid. I've always admired him, so it's great for me.

'It's one of those moments where you don't know what to say or how to feel.'

Touchy feely: The duo were very affectionate while they posed for the cameras looking excited to be working together again

Cheryl, the show's British judge, arrived in Los Angeles earlier this week, ahead of the taping.

Following months of speculation, she was only recently confirmed as a judge on the new U.S. version of the hit British reality series.

But her recruitment has sparked accusations the show is too British, with some worried the American audience won't understand Cheryl's strong regional accent.

But Cheryl laughed off the criticism, saying: 'I'm hoping people are going to embrace it.

'I'm not worried (about my accent). It's going to be interesting. I hear a lot of accents here too.'

But she conceded: 'I'm sure there will be words or phases where people are like, excuse me?'

Meeting her fans: Cheryl might still be a relative unknown in the U.S., but a huge crowd cheered her as she climbed out of her limousine

Is that really workout wear? X Factor USA judge Cheryl Cole visits celeb gym

By SARAH FITZMAURICE

Jumping for joy? Cheryl Cole was seen leaving Tracy Anderson's gym in L.A. yesterday wearing unusual workout attire and performing a number of bizarre movements as she left the gym

She has just landed one of the biggest gigs in showbusiness as judge on the U.S. version of the X Factor so Cheryl Cole could be forgiven for jumping for joy.

But as she left celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson’s gym yesterday she was quite literally doing just that - which made for a bizarre sight indeed especially because of what she was wearing.

The petite singer, who is said to have asked her brother Garry to move to America with her, ran down the steps of the gym in Studio City and performed a series of jumps pulling her knees up high to finish off her workout.

What are you wearing? The singer raced down the steps of the gym before jumping into the air. Cheryl had decided to wear a striped navy jump a pair of camel coloured baggy trousers and a pair of aviators

While her warmdown exercises may have seemed slightly unorthodox her clothing for the gym was much more curious.

Cheryl had chosen a pair of camel coloured pants and a striped navy jumper, which seemed an odd choice for the gym session and the effects of the workout could clearly be seen on the top which appeared drenched in sweat.

In fact the jumper was the same one Cheryl had worn during her flight from London to LA on Friday.

Hello USA! Cheryl arrived into LAX on Friday with her brother Garry by her side to ensure she doesn't get homesick. The auditions for the show start today

The 23-year-old will be living with the singer at her beachside hotel so she doesn’t miss home too much.

Cheryl has admitted: ‘I’m a really homely person. I miss home when I’m only away for a few days,’ The Sunday Mirror reported.

The Geordie singer’s appointment was confirmed on Thursday alongside Cowell and LA Reid as a judge on the U.S. version of the show – ending months of speculation.

Big shot: Cheryl has been given a £1.2million deal as a judge on the X Factor but is said to have been given just a year to make an impression on the American audience

The singer has landed a one-year, £1.2 million ‘make or break’ contract to appear on the new show and has a year to really make a name for herself stateside.

Cole’s deal is actually for three years – but producers have written in a get-out clause so they can dump her if she fails to win over US viewers.

There has already been some concern that her Geordie accent could prove baffling for the Americans but Cowell has said that Fox bosses back her all along.

Cole – who has been a judge on the British version of the show since2008 – said she ‘couldn’t wait to get started’ on the transatlantic version. ‘I absolutely love it in the UK and with the talent they have in America I am sure we’re going to find someone very special.'

X Factor reject Katie Waissel

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Larking around: Katie Waissel and her boyfriend Leon Callanan made the most of the sunshine on Primrose Hill today

With temperatures reaching 26C in London today, it's no surprise people were flocking to local parks in their thousands to make the most of the sunshine.

And among the crowds was X Factor reject Katie Waissel, who appeared to be enjoying herself as she larked around with friends including boyfriend Leon Callanan on Primrose Hill.

Teaming her huge backcombed blonde hair with a printed T-shirt, red lipstick and a pair of tight jeans, Katie looked every inch the quintessential rock chick as she reclined on the grass with her group of pals.

Drink up! Katie seems to be enjoying her can of ready made Pimm's in the sun

But at one point Katie obviously felt her outfit needed an addition and decided to attempt to wrestle Leon's baseball cap from his head, much to her beau's disgust.

Katie and Leon started dating last November when Katie was in the middle of appearing on The X Factor.

Confirming the relationship at the time, Katie said: 'We've been friends for years. He's like a young Jimi Hendrix. He's so rock and roll.

'It's early days, but I like him. He's so handsome and has such a big heart.'

Simon Cowell will NOT be returning as UK X Factor judge

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Confirmation: Simon Cowell will not return to judge the UK X Factor show

Simon Cowell will not be returning as a judge on the UK X Factor, ITV boss Peter Fincham has confirmed,
The music mogul, who was originally slated to be splitting his time between America and England so he could judge both programme, will now concentrate solely on judging the U.S. show.

However, ITV added they were talking to Cowell about 'ways in which he can have an on-screen presence' later in the series.

Fincham, ITV's Director of Television, said: 'We have been in negotiations with Simon about ways in which we can help The X Factor evolve.

'He will be an enormous presence backstage as always.'

'Enormous presence': Cowell will continue to have a part in the show, albeit backstage instead of on the panel

The Mail revealed earlier this month that Cowell was struggling to split his priorities between the two programmes and had decided that a balancing act between the two shows was 'just not feasible'.

'My schedule didn't allow it': Rihanna reveals she turned down X Factor USA role as thousands brave rain to audition

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Superstar: Rihanna has revealed she turned down the chance to be a judge on The X Factor USA

Rihanna revealed she was asked to be a judge on American X Factor but had to say no because of her gruelling tour schedule.

The Barbados-born star confirmed that the show's boss Simon Cowell had offered her a judging gig but because of not being available for the rest of the year she was forced to turn it down - even though she would have 'loved' to do it.

Rihanna, 23, told an American radio show: 'I just heard about it actually and yes, it's something I would have loved to do but our schedule doesn't allow it.

Rain: The weather was wet in Newark but it didn't dampen spirits as fans auditioned for the talent contest today

'We're going to be on tour for the rest of the year.

'It is a demanding schedule to be in that show and you have to be around for a long time, months at a time - which would've been impossible for me.'

With Cheryl Cole, 27 , confirmed to be joining Cowell and L.A Reid in the judging panel, the fourth is still shrouded in mystery.

But the cavalcade of excited wannabe contestants at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey today, couldn't have cared less about who will end up in charge of their fate.

Anything Cher Lloyd can do... Now X Factor reject Katie Waissel unveils new 'do after having hair extensions

By SARAH BULL

New 'do: X Factor reject Katie Waissel showed off longer locks after having hair extensions as she arrived for an interview on The Alan Titchmarsh Show

Just hours after her X Factor competitor Cher Lloyd unveiled her new hairdo, Katie Waissel has done exactly the same.

The 24-year-old singer showed off long blonde hair after having extensions to make her look more glamourous.

Katie debuted the look as she arrived at the ITV studios yesterday for an interview and performance on The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

What a difference: The glamorous new style is a sharp contrast to her previous gamine crop

It was the first time Katie had treated fans to a look at the new 'do, having told them on Twitter earlier this week she was having help to get longer hair.

She wrote: '@ClareBearLdn is currently making my hair magically grow!!x'
As well as performing her new single The Ugly Truth on Titchmarsh's ITV show, Katie told the host she had struggled to cope with a lot of the negative criticism she received during her time on The X Factor.

But Katie insisted she never considered giving up because she had too many people relying on her.

Anything Cher can do: Katie's unveiling of her new style came just hours after Ms Lloyd tweeted a photo of her newly-dyed hair

She explained: 'I didn't want to give up. There were too many people out there who believed in me like my friends, my family and my Waissel Warriors who were supporting me and I just thought, "I'm not going to give up, it's not going to break me".'

Katie also revealed one of the lowest points during her time on the X Factor was when she was told she had received death threats.

She said: 'I don't understand where it all came from. It did get quite bad at some points.

'I think one of the lowest points was when I was in the car on the way to the studios for rehearsal and I got a phone call saying I had to go back to the house because there had been serious death threats against me with which the police had to get involved.

Style chameleon: Katie has tried various different looks including a long brunette wig and a brown crop during her time on the X Factor

However, Katie came back from the knocks and took to the stage on the X Factor live tour - an experience she thoroughly enjoyed.

Katie said: 'The X Factor tour finished just a few days ago and it was amazing because we got to play such huge venues. I was a little bit nervous and apprehensive after the show but the reaction was so positive - people were cheering and were so supportive and helped build my confidence.'

Cheryl Cole quits UK X Factor to concentrate on breaking the States with U.S. show

By SARA NATHAN

Stateside: Cheryl Cole is expected to join the panel alongside Cowell and L.A. Reid with Paula Abdul hotly-tipped to be the fourth judge

It is a subject as hotly speculated as the designer of Kate Middleton’s dress
But Cheryl Cole is finally set to sign her £3million deal to star on the U.S. X Factor – and will quit the UK show to concentrate on breaking her career in the States.

The news comes just a day after the Daily Mail told how Simon Cowell will not appear as a judge on the UK version this year, instead planning to make a few appearances.

It was multi-millionaire Cowell, 51, who seemingly broke the news of Mrs Cole’s contract yesterday, which was also echoed by American showbiz industry bible Variety magazine.

Dream come true: Cheryl's hopes were initially put on ice after feedback from focus groups on the Girls Aloud singer were negative

Speaking from London via video link on Fox breakfast show Good Day LA, he was asked by the presenter if Mrs Cole would be joining him in one of the hot seats, to which he replied with a firm 'yes'.

However, perhaps realising his faux-pas, the music mogul then seemed to quickly backtrack on his statement, explaining that the panel had not actually been decided yet. He went on to even try to blame a delay in video link for his incorrect response.

New look: Executives at Cheryl's record company Polydor are already working on a dramatic make-over to help her break America

The Mail told in December how Mrs Cole, 27, had been told that she had won a judging role on the U.S. X Factor, which will launch in September – after American TV executives flew over to watch her on the UK show.

However, her dreams were put on ice after Fox TV chiefs held focus groups, where potential X Factor viewers were shown footage of the Girls Aloud singer. The resulting feedback was not good, although Mrs Cole continued to be backed by Cowell and senior Fox bosses.

But yesterday, Variety magazine reported that the petite brunette’s contract is currently being drawn up and that her announcement as the third judge on the television talent show will swiftly follow.

Cheryl Cole's American dream is 'almost impossible'

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

American ambition: Cheryl Cole has been spending a lot of time in Los Angeles while trying to crack the US but her dream might be just a dream according to a PR guru

Cheryl Cole’s dream to carry her success Stateside might be shattered by her family’s criminal history - as well as her own tainted record.

A top Hollywood PR guru has spoken of Cheryl’s ambition and how her brother’s imprisonment and her criminal record might ruin her image in the U.S.

Rob Shutter said: ‘The amount of drama that seems to follow this young lady around could make any career opportunity in America almost impossible.’

Troubled family: Cheryl's half brother Andrew Tweedy (left) is currently in jail and brother Garry (right) has had run ins with the law too

As well as Cheryl’s brother Andrew Tweedy currently being in jail, the singer was found guilty of assault in 2003.

The U.S PR agent, who has looked after Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell and Jessica Simpson, told Heat magazine: ‘She has shown no remorse over the mistake she has made.

Cheryl's sister: Gillian Tweedy was arrested after brawling with her brother Andrew in 2002 following a binge drinking session

‘If she was already a star in Amercia and we found out all of this troubling information, she might have a chance.

‘But as no one knows her here in the USA , all this drama could define her. You only get to make a first impression once and this isn’t the one you want to make.’

The 27-year-old’s assault charge came shortly after she joined Girls Aloud, when she was found guilty of assaulting toilet attendant Sophie Amogbokpa in Drink nightclub in Surrey.

Found guilty: In 2003 Cheryl Cole was sentenced to pay £500 and complete 120 hours community service after assaulting a toilet attendant

Close to mum: Cheryl's mother Joan supported her during the tough time in 2003 and stood by her daughter

The Newcastle-born singer is currently in Los Angeles trying to crack the U.S market, but is still eagerly awaiting a response over her possible role in their version of X Factor.

Simon Cowell still confirms that the judging panel for US X Factor has not yet been decided, but Cole is apparently having elocution classes just in case.
