Best hats of the royal wedding guests

Best hats of the royal wedding guests
Kate Middleton is known for her love of standout hats, or fascinators. This regal accessory was also a popular choice for attendees of her wedding to Prince William. Click through the gallery to see some of the craziest, most elaborate hats worn to the royal wedding.

The marriage of the second in line to the British throne is to be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and will be attended by 1900 guests, including foreign Royal family members and heads of state. Thousands of well-wishers from around the world have also flocked to London to witness the spectacle and pageantry of the Royal Wedding.

Best and worst of Royal Wedding fashion

Best and worst of Royal Wedding fashion

The royal wedding has arrived, and it sure was fancy! The blushing bride, Kate Middleton, stunned in an Alexander McQueen gown, while Prince William looked dapper and utterly swoon-worthy in uniform. Check out the new royal couple, and all the lucky guests wearing proper morning dress attire and outrageous fascinator hats.
 Carole Middleton – A-

The mother of the bride wore Catherine Walker, perhaps in tribute to Princess Diana as she was one of her favorite designers. She looked very classy in an icy blue wool coat over a pale silk dress and matching hat by Jane Corbett.
 Lady Helen Taylor - C

She’s the Queen’s cousin, the great granddaughter of King George V, and was once the muse to Giorgio Armani. Today Taylor wore Erdem Moralioglu . We weren’t feeling the embroidered flowers on her jacket, or the white gloves.
 Joss Stone – B+

The singer looked genuiniely psyched to attend the big event and traded in her typically bohemian attire for an on-trend honeysuckle pink shift dress and matching jacket and pumps. It was a festive look, and even with the hat it wasn’t too stuffy
 The bridesmaids - A

As is British tradition, the little ladies were dressed similarly to the bride, and their dresses were made by British designer Nicki Macfarlane using the same fabric as Kate’s McQueen gown. Lady Louise Windsor, Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Grace van Cutsem, and Eliza Lopes wore box-pleated dresses hand-finished with English Cluny lace and gold silk sashes. How cute are their little puff sleeves?! The accessories were equally adorable. Each girl wore satin Mary Janes with Swarovski crystal buckles from England's Rainbow Club, and a lily-of-the-valley hair wreath inspired by the flowers Carole Middleton used in her own wedding.
 Princess Anne – B

The Princess Royal wore a lilac dress and hat with a coordinating floral coat and nude heels. It was a bold choice, but we think she pulled it off!

 James Middleton - B

The bride’s brother also wore a yellow vest… and a serious tan. He looks like a young Jude Law. So handsome!
 Tara Palmer-Tomkinson – A

The English socialite wore a striking head-to-toe blue outfit and matching Philip Treacy fascinator. This hat was our favorite of the day!
 Queen Elizabeth – B

The queen is known for her love of color, and today she wore a joyful, bright yellow Angela Kelly ensemble. The designer is a close confidant of the queen, and currently serves as curator in jewelry, insignias, and wardrobe. Elizabeth accessorized with the Queen Mary’s lover’s knot brooch.
Prince William and Kate Middleton, aka the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - A

The bride was absolutely breathtaking this morning in her Alexander McQueen gown. Creative director Sarah Burton used hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace throughout the bodice and skirt, while the ivory and white satin gazar skirt was designed to emulate a flower. How lovely! We loved Kate’s sweetheart bodice and the lace sleeves, and felt the dress looked both retro and modern at the same time. It reminded us of Grace Kelly’s wedding gown, only more wearable.

William wore a Colonel of the Irish Guards uniform, which features a scarlet red jacket, blue sash from the Order of the Garter, and a forage cap. The Army's honorary Irish Guards position, which he earned in February, is his highest military title. William stood tall and proud in the bright color, but his best accessory was his glowing smile when he finally saw Kate at the altar.
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie – D

The cousins to Prince William and Prince Harry and daughters of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York (who wasn’t invited to the wedding), definitely made a statement with their flashy ensembles and Philip Treacy hats. Eugenie’s dress was completely unflattering, while Beatrice’s hat looked like an octopus on her head. Not good.
 Sir Elton John – B+

If anyone can pull off a flashy look it’s musical phenom (and close friend of the late Princess Diana), Elton John, and he did not disappoint in a yellow vest and contrasting purple tie. His husband David Furnish stuck to a neutral grey palette to keep the focus on the singer.
 Prince Charles - B

The prince has held the rank of Admiral of the Royal Navy since 2006 and so today he wore the ceremonial uniform of the Royal Navy Number One Dress decorated with lots of flair. Forget a tuxedo, this uniform is official.
David Beckham A- and Victoria Beckham B-

Unlike some of the more colorful guests, a seven months pregnant Victoria Beckham donned a more somber, dark navy dress from her own fall collection, with a matching Philp Treacy pillbox hat and Christian Louboutins. Her look was rather boring and predictable, but we understand it can be tricky to dress a baby bump. David Beckham looked dashing as ever in a Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit with charcoal morning coat, slicked back hair, and a top hat.
 Guy Ritchie – B+

The director and ex-husband of Madonna certainly knows how to dress. His complimenting shades of grey and pinstripe pants are perfectly coordinated.

 Prince Harry – A

The best man and brother of the groom wore the uniform of Captain of the Household Cavalry. The gold waist belt and rope embellishments look awesome against the dark coat, but Harry’s messy hair and perpetual grin really sold us on this look. Love it.
 Pippa Middleton - A

The maid of honor and wore Alexander McQueen, just like her sister, and her gown was stunning enough to be a wedding dress itself! This gown is very simple but elegant with a low flutter neckline and tiny buttons all down the back.
 Chelsy Davy B-

Prince Harry’s on-and-off girlfriend wore an aqua green, bias reverse satin dress and matching faille silk jacket by Italian designer Alberta Ferretti. The color complimented her hair, eyes, and skin tone beautifully, but something about her appearance looks disheveled. Knowing her reputation, she may have been up late partying last night.

 Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall B-

Camilla wore Anna Valentine to the royal wedding—the same designer she wore to her own nuptials back in 2005. Her two-tone champagne and pale blue coat has a pleated skirt, with a matching champagne dress underneath. The look is complimented with a Philip Treacy hat and Jimmy Choo heels.
Queen Sofia of Spain, Prince Felipe of Asturias and Princess Letizia of Asturias – B

Many members of European royalty were in attendance. Here the military dressed Prince Felipe is flanked by his mother, Queen Sofia, in an all purple getup and his wife, Princess Letizia, in shades of pink. We’re kind of obsessed with the retro, rose colored embellished column dress.

William and Kate's Wedding Celebration

Royal Wedding highlights best 20 moments

Royal Wedding highlights best 20 moments

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been named husband and wife by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey.
Here are the top 20 moments from the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday. See our live blog for continued coverage.
• Clarence House announced Prince William and his bride would leave Westminster Abbey in the same open topped horse-drawn carriage used by the Prince and Princess of Wales on their wedding day in 1981 – meaning that come rain or shine, crowds would be able to clearly see the married couple.
• The Queen gave the Royal couple the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, also naming her grandson Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus, titles his bride would also inherit after the ceremony.
• As crowds gathered in Westminster, the crew of the International Space Station broadcast pre-recorded greetings to the Royal couple, from hundreds of miles above the surface of the Earth

• The Archbishop of Canterbury promised the ceremony would be “very special” to the bride and groom, adding that they seemed to him a “deeply sensible” and “realistic” couple.
• Crowds outside went into a frenzy as celebrity guests, including Victoria Beckham – who wore one of her own dresses – her husband David (who wore his OBE medal on the wrong lapel) and Elton John arrived at the abbey.
• Villagers from Kate Middleton’s home in Bucklebury held a quaint fete to celebrate the most momentous occasion in their small community’s history.
• Boris Johnson confirmed he would bestow a tandem Boris Bike on the couple as a wedding gift – cue a video of what that might look like.
• David Cameron arrived at Westminster Abbey wearing tails, after confusion earlier this week about whether the Prime Minister would dress down for the occasion due to fears over his image.
• The PM disclosed how he camped out on the streets to celebrate Prince Charles and Diana Spencer’s wedding in 1981.
• Prince William and his best man Prince Harry left Clarence House to a raucous reception from the public. The groom was resplendent in the full dress of the Irish Guards with RAF wings on his sash, while his brother wore black.
• Police sealed off an area around a suspicious car near the Goring hotel, where the bride’s family was staying, but the situation was resolved shortly afterwards.
• After Princes William and Harry arrived at the abbey, so did the Queen, wearing a yellow Angela Kelly-designed single crepe wool primrose dress.
• As Kate Middleton’s car pulled away from the Goring Hotel it was confirmed that she was, as suspected, wearing Sarah Burton, artistic director of Alexander McQueen, with a v-neck and lace long sleeves.
• The bride also wore a diamond tiara previously worn by Queen Mary, the Queen Mother, the Queen and the Princess Royal.
• As she arrived next to him on the aisle, Prince William could be seen remarking to Kate: “You look stunning, babe”, and joking to his father-in-law: “Just a small family affair!”
• During a service conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Prince William said “I will” clearly and firmly, while his bride spoke more quietly, apparently slightly overcome with emotion as the couple were married.
• Rousing choruses of Jerusalem and the National Anthem inside the abbey are echoed by crowds enjoying a brief period of sunshine in the streets outside.
• The couple left the abbey hand in hand and rode in the sunshine past cheering crowds to Buckingham Palace, where crowds converged to watch their first kiss as a married couple.
• As mounted guards accompanied the couple’s open-topped carriage, one rider lost control and fell from his saddle, while the horse bolted up Whitehall and past Downing Street.
• Anarchists’ plans to tarnish the wedding with a demonstration at Soho Square failed to spoil the day, with only 10 or so gathering for their so-called “zombie wedding” protest.

Kate Middleton signature hats

Kate Middleton signature hats

Kate Middleton’s style has been dubbed “safe chic,” but her impeccably tailored jackets and eclectic hats are anything but boring. Her signature look is perfectly princess-appropriate.
Weeks before announcing her engagement, Kate attended the wedding of Harry Meade and Rosie Bradford in a chic cobalt dress, paired with a black blazer and standout hat.

Kate donned this elaborate headpiece at her first official royal appearance — a naming ceremony for a new royal lifeboat. Crafted for her by Vivien Sheriff Millinery, it features the insignia of the Royal Welch Fusiliers and two military tunic buttons.
For the wedding of Nicholas van Cutsem and Alice Hadden-Paton, Kate wore another one of her signature tailored jackets, this time in a periwinkle brocade. She topped off the ensemble with another chic floral hat.
Back in 2006, Kate attended Prince William’s graduation from the Royal Military Academy wearing a stunning, structured black hat with a bright red peacoat.
Attending yet another wedding, Kate chose a fitted cream blazer to wear over a lace-embellished dress — paired, of course, with an elegant black hat.
In 2006, Kate wore this eclectic feathered headpiece to the wedding of Laura Parker Bowles (daughter of Prince Charles’s wife Camilla).
Showing off her casual style, Kate topped off her monochromatic ensemble with a fedora at the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival in 2008.
Kate went Western with this cowboy-inspired hat at the Gatcombe Park Festival of British Eventing in 2005.
For the summertime wedding of Lady Rose Windsor, Kate finished off her pastel ensemble with a black feathered headpiece.
