I finally got my copy of Ace Of Base's new CD The Golden Ratio from Amazon Germany last week, and it's okay. (What's hell is up with the two bluesy/rock numbers? And no Ulf for Joker raps? Scandal!) I have to give it a few more spins before forming a full opinion about it.
In the meantime, The Golden Ratio debuted this week on the German album chart at #20, while its lead single "All For You" has so far peaked at #38.
It'll be interesting to see how this whole project does in the band's home country of Sweden.

VIDEO: Kelly Rowland And Ace Of Base Perform "When Love Takes Over"
Last night in Toronto, Kelly Rowland and Ace Of Base both found themselves at that same amfAR benefit gig (Cinema Against AIDS). The Base tweeted that 10 minutes before Kelly took the stage to belt out "When Love Takes Over," she asked them to join her on backup.
Seriously, you couldn't make this shit up! Not bad for only having a few minutes to throw it all together.
This vid comes courtesy of an Idolator reader named Michael Pett, who emailed it to me today.

Ace Of Base Announce 'The Golden Ratio' Release Date
This morning Ace Of Base announced on their Facebook that their fifth album The Golden Ratio has a September 24 release date, while the first single, "All For You" (watch the video) is officially out September 10.
A couple weeks back the band mentioned 17 possible songs that may wind up on the album. Apparently "Let It Play (BlaBlaBla)" has made the cut, and is now officially called "Bla Bla Bla (On The Radio)."

The Sex In Ace Of Base 2.0 (aka Ace.Of.Base) And Their "All For You" Music Video
Make no mistake about Ace.Of.Base, the new incarnation of Ye Olde Ace Of Base—these new gals who've replaced departed siblings Jenny and Linn Berggren are here to amp up the party pussy-slip slut factor. They slink around seductively and arch their backs in bra and panties. And while they sing adequately enough, they're providing the much needed Sex Factor that maybe was required for AOB to get another record deal.
That said, neither of these broads (Clara Hagman and Julia Williamson) can suggestively manhandle a microphone as expertly as Base veteran Ulf Ekberg does in the "All For You" music video.
And then there's longstanding Ace linchpin Jonas Berggren, who appears in the new clip as kind of the wise old Europop sage figure. It's like Orson Welles and Joe Cocker birthed a baby who came shooting out with a Moog in one hand and acoustic guitar in the other.
And, hey—the video is in black and white, just like the group's breakthrough smash from many, many moons ago (1993), "All That She Wants." See "the bridge" there? (Wink.)
Here's "All For You."
Ace.Of.Base's album The Golden Ratio is due out by year's end.

Ace Of Base Offer Up More "All For You" Video Pics And An Extended Mix
This mix—the "Dance Extended Mix" of Ace Of Base's "All For You"—isn't too shabby. As mentioned last week, the Base revealed the names of the 17 contending songs for their upcoming fifth LP The Golden Ratio.

Ace Of Base Meet Kiefer Sutherland, Name Fifth Album 'The Golden Ratio'
Any Jack Bauer fans in the house? This pic of Ulf Ekberg and the new Ace Of Base broads with Kiefer Sutherland in Gothenburg, Sweden, was posted today on the band's Facebook. Why? Well—why the hell not, right?
The Base have been shooting their video for new single "All For You" this week (maybe Kiefer will make a cameo?), and Jonas Berggren tweeted on Monday that while they've secured a Canadian deal, they're still working on getting distribution in the States:

4. Golden Ratio
5. One Day
6. California
7. All Night Long
8. Hold Me, Doreen

It's A Full Radio Rip Of Ace Of Base's "All For You"
This is far less exciting now that we hear the whole thing. Ace Of Base's "All For You" has been sent off to various European radio stations, so naturally a rip of it has leaked.
Musically it's there (though could be a tad more "up"). Vocally it just makes me think that if they do live shows with these two new girls singing the old AOB stuff, they'd better wear protective armor.

Ace Of Base Return With "All For You"
It's reunion fever on Planet Pop these days. But too bad only half of the original Ace Of Base members are on board for their second coming. (Last year they lost Jenny, while Linn had departed after 1998 album Flowers.)
Yes, now Ulf and Jonas have two new broads in the ranks, Clara Hagman and Julia Williamson. (Note: this is nothing new, as they were talking about adding at least one new member as far back as last summer.) I recall there being some drama when Jenny posted messages on Twitter saying that the band wouldn't be called Ace Of Base as long as the original members weren't taking part. Well, so much for that.
Below is 28 seconds of new single "All For You," which is being sent out to European radio today.
On one hand, as an AOB fan from day one, I want to rail against this new version of the band. Unfortunately this song is mucking it all up by sounding fantastic...
